North Carolina CPE Requirements

License Renewal Date: Annual

CPE Reporting Period: January 1 - December 31

General Requirements
  • 40 Total CPE Hours
  • 2 Ethics CPE Hours [1/1/2012 - 12/31/2019]
  • 1 Ethics CPE Hours [Effective 1/1/2020]

NOTE: Effective January 1, 2020, North Carolina requires CPE Credits to be reported in minutes instead of hours; one CPE hour = 50 CPE minutes. CPE completed before January 1, 2020, is reported in hours, not minutes.

Half credits are accepted.

Nano learning credits are accepted.

Allows CPE before the initial license date, within the same calendar year as license date

Carryover:

When a licensee completes more than the required number of hours of CPE in any calendar year, the extra hours, not in excess of twenty (20) hours, may be carried forward and treated as hours earned in the following year.

Initial License:

Licensees who are approved by the Board in January-March must complete 40 CPE hours during the same calendar year. Licensees who are approved in April-June must complete 30 CPE hours during the same calendar year. Licensees who are approved July-Sept must complete 20 CPE hours during the same calendar year. Licensees who are approved in Oct-Dec must complete 10 CPE hours during the same calendar year.
