Date: Wednesday, April 22, 2026
Instructor: David H. Ringstrom
Begin Time:  11:00am Pacific Time
12:00pm Mountain Time
1:00pm Central Time
2:00pm Eastern Time
CPE Credit:  2 hours for CPAs

In this presentation, author and Excel expert David H. Ringstrom, CPA, will guide participants through a comprehensive exploration of advanced logic functions and related formulas. Topics covered include the IF and IFS functions, as well as nested IF functions. You'll see how to troubleshoot formulas with the Evaluate Formula feature. David will compare the IFERROR and IFNA functions so that you know the best practices for each. Other functions covered include IS functions, AND, OR, SUMIF, SUMIFS, COUNTIF, COUNTIFS, MIN, MAX, SMALL, LARGE, and MAXIFS. Attendees will gain valuable insights and practical knowledge to enhance their Excel skills and improve efficiency in their day-to-day tasks.

David H. Ringstrom, CPA, has more than 30 years of experience as a spreadsheet and accounting software consultant and speaker. He has presented over 2,500 live webinars and is the author or co-author of ten books, including “Microsoft 365 Excel All-in-One for Dummies”, “Microsoft 365 Excel for Dummies”, “Exploring Microsoft Excel’s Hidden Treasures”, and “QuickBooks Online for Dummies”.

In his webinars, David encourages questions throughout the presentation and demonstrates every technique twice: first on a PowerPoint slide with numbered steps and then live in Excel for Microsoft 365 for Windows. He highlights any differences in Excel 2024, 2021, or 2019 during the session and in his detailed handouts. Attendees also receive an Excel workbook containing most of the examples he uses, making it easy to follow along and apply the techniques later. David additionally supports Excel for Mac users by answering their follow-up questions via email.

Who Should Attend
Professionals seeking to use Microsoft Excel more effectively.

Topics Covered

  • Counting occurrences of an item in a list using the COUNTIF function
  • Employing the SUBSTITUTE function as an alternative to complex formulas based on the IF function
  • Using IFS to simplify multiple conditions without the complexity of nested IFs in Excel 2019
  • Discovering the capabilities of the SUMPRODUCT function for calculating payroll and other amounts
  • Avoiding the complexity of nested IF statements with Excel’s CHOOSE function
  • Returning the inverse of a TRUE/FALSE test by way of Excel’s NOT function
  • Most features and functions work in Excel for Mac as well but expect differences
  • Comparing the IFNA function to the IFERROR function
  • Testing values with IS functions for type, parity, formulas, and references
  • Comparing values using logical operators to return TRUE or FALSE outcomes
  • Learning about the MAXIFS function available in certain versions of Excel
  • Testing for a single condition among two or more that returns TRUE by way of Excel’s XOR function

Learning Objectives

  • Differentiate between IFNA and IFERROR in handling Excel formula errors
  • Select the appropriate Excel function for replacing specific text within a string without relying on logical conditions
  • Apply logical comparison operators to evaluate whether values meet specific numeric conditions
