What is multi-factor authentication (MFA)?

Multi-factor authentication is an added security measure for your CCH CPELink account. Multi-factor authentication (or 2-step verification) increases security by sending users a one-time code that authenticates identity and the device from which they are logging in, adding a layer of protection more resilient than a password alone can provide.

Multi-factor authentication will be automatically enabled for all CCH CPELink accounts on March 1st, 2019. After this date, you will be required to complete one additional step to verify your identity before you can log into your CCH CPELink account from new devices or browsers. The first step of multi-factor authentication requires individuals to log in with an email address and password. This is not a change from prior years. Going forward, if you access your account from a new device or browser, you will also need a one-time access code that will be sent to your registered e-mail or mobile phone. That code must then be entered to verify your identity.

Why is it important?

As we strive to build long-lasting and sustainable partnerships, we continue to assess and leverage technology that aims to provide more security for our customers. In light of this, CCH CPELink website will have an extra layer of security that makes it more difficult for cybercriminals to access your personal data.

2-step verification is used to create a more secure login experience, especially on web-based applications. You may already use 2-step verification on a banking website, an email account, or other websites you log into. There are three types of authentication that can be used, such as things you know, things you have, and things you are. Wolters Kluwer focuses on things you know and have. An example of something you have would be your email address or your mobile phone.

The IRS intends to require this type of login in the future, but Wolters Kluwer is adopting this process early, because of the importance of data security.

Is this mandatory?

This 2-step verification will be enabled automatically on March 1st, 2019. After this date, you will have to go through the verification process to log into your account.
