Many professions require the utilization of professional skepticism, due care and independence in execution of roles. Corporate politics can be a combating factor when attempting to comply with those requirements. Leaders must be vigilant about nipping “political” problems in the bud, before they spiral out of control.

When you were in college, did you really think the word "politics" was anything other than governmental issues and elections? Little did you know that a new challenge awaited you upon graduation and entering into the workforce.

Dealing with corporate politics can be one of the most frustrating and confusing experiences for any professional let alone individuals just entering the workforce. Unfortunately, the same issues that cause problems in government—selfishness, greed, bickering, lust for power—can creep into your company's culture and impede productivity. Leaders must be vigilant about nipping “political” problems in the bud, before they spiral out of control.

It doesn’t matter if you are an executive leading an organization or a staff assistant, corporate politics can impact your work and work product. Many individuals declare “I don’t play corporate politics”, but unfortunately studies show that whenever two or more individuals gather in a work setting, politics will exist.

This course will focus on the core concepts that impact corporate politics and evaluate methods for better understanding when/how/why the issues occur. This will enable the professional to better execute their professional skepticism, due care and independence responsibilities.
